Solihull at a glance

The Metropolitan Borough of Solihull sits on the south-east edge of Birmingham, between the city and Coventry. It is a mix of busy town and quiet countryside. Solihull town centre, Shirley and Chelmsley Wood are part of the built-up West Midlands, while Knowle, Dorridge, Hampton-in-Arden, Meriden, Berkswell and Balsall Common are villages in the green belt known as the Meriden Gap. Around three quarters of the borough is green belt.

The borough also includes the NEC and Birmingham Airport, which is useful if you have guests flying in or staying nearby. Castle Bromwich, in the north of the borough, borders north-east Birmingham.

For DJ hire, that variety shapes the evening. A hotel function suite in town runs very differently from a historic house in a village or a hall with neighbours close by.

Wedding and party venues in and around Solihull

These are a few of the venues in the area that host weddings and events. This is not a full list, and we are not connected to any of them.

  • Hampton Manor, Hampton-in-Arden. A country house hotel on a 45-acre estate, once owned by Sir Robert Peel, with 15 bedrooms and the Peel’s restaurant. Hampton-in-Arden station is a short walk away, one stop from Birmingham International.
  • Hogarths, Dorridge. A country-house hotel on Four Ashes Road in around 32 acres of woodland and gardens, with several event rooms including the Coach House.
  • Nailcote Hall, Berkswell. A hotel with its own golf course and country club on Nailcote Lane, near Balsall Common.
  • Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, Castle Bromwich. A Grade I listed Jacobean house on Chester Road, with event rooms including the Malt House and a garden marquee for larger receptions.
  • Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club, near Meriden. A golf hotel on Maxstoke Lane. Although it has a Meriden address, it falls under Warwickshire for ceremonies, so check which register office applies.
  • Knowle Village Hall. A community hall in the centre of Knowle that lists social functions among its uses. As with any village hall, check its rules on music, alcohol and finish times before you book.

What to think about for a Solihull event

Historic and country house venues. Older buildings often have rules about where the DJ sets up, how equipment comes in and whether haze is allowed. Some use sound limiters. Our guide to what a DJ needs from your venue has a checklist to send to the venue.

Village halls. Village and community halls are a common choice for birthdays and anniversaries. Halls often have earlier finish times and limited parking close to the door. A DJ who has worked in halls will plan around this. See mobile disco hire for hall parties.

Guests travelling in. With the airport and the NEC in the borough, it is common for wedding guests to stay locally. If guests are travelling from further away, allow for that when you plan your wedding reception timings.

Asian weddings. If you are planning a reception with large guest numbers and need Bhangra and Bollywood alongside chart music, tell us when you enquire, and see our page on Asian wedding DJs.
