Sutton Coldfield at a glance
Sutton Coldfield is a large town on the northern edge of Birmingham. It was in Warwickshire until 1974, when it became part of the City of Birmingham, and in 2016 it elected its own town council for the first time. The town’s “Royal” title goes back to a charter granted by Henry VIII in 1528, which is why you will see it called Royal Sutton Coldfield.
The town is made up of distinct neighbourhoods: Four Oaks and Mere Green to the north, Walmley and Minworth to the east, Wylde Green and Boldmere to the south, and the town centre in the middle. Next to the centre is Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in England and a National Nature Reserve, with pools, heathland and woodland.
To the east, just over the border in Warwickshire, is the village of Wishaw, home to some of the area’s best-known event venues.
Wedding and party venues in and around Sutton Coldfield
A few of the venues locally that host weddings and events. This is not a full list, and we are not connected to any of them.
- New Hall Hotel, Walmley Road. A moated manor house that began as a 13th-century hunting lodge, set in around 26 acres of gardens. Its historic rooms are a reason to ask early about setup position and access.
- Moxhull Hall, Wishaw. A country house hotel on Holly Lane, just outside Sutton Coldfield in Warwickshire, which became a hotel in 1969 and now hosts weddings.
- Moor Hall Hotel, Four Oaks. A country house hotel with gardens and woodland. Its Charter Suite takes up to 180 guests, and it has a section on Asian and multicultural weddings.
- The Belfry, Wishaw. The golf resort on Lichfield Road hosts weddings and large events. Like Moxhull Hall, it falls under Warwickshire for ceremonies.
- Trinity Centre, Mill Street. Run by Holy Trinity Church in the town centre, it lists wedding receptions among its uses but says it cannot currently host parties.
What to think about for a Sutton Coldfield event
Historic houses. New Hall and Moor Hall are older buildings with event rooms that were not designed for sound systems. Ask about power, load-in, sound limiters and haze before the day. Our guide to what a DJ needs from your venue covers each one.
Large resort venues. At bigger venues such as The Belfry, several events may run at once. You may be given a set load-in time, a service entrance to use and a volume level to keep to, so ask the events team early.
Church and community halls. Church and community halls around the town are a common choice for birthday and anniversary parties. Each has its own rules, and some do not allow parties at all, so check before you book. For hall parties, see mobile disco hire.
Asian weddings. Moor Hall is one local venue that promotes Asian and multicultural weddings. If you need Bhangra and Bollywood as well as chart music, see our page on Asian wedding DJs.
