About Moxhull Hall

Moxhull Hall is on Holly Lane in Wishaw, on the edge of Sutton Coldfield. It describes itself as a country house on the edge of the city, and weddings are exclusive use: the hall and grounds are yours, and the venue says hire runs until 10.30 the morning after. There are bedrooms across the main house, the courtyard and cottages, plus a honeymoon suite.

The venue lists these spaces for the day:

  • The Secret Garden, an outdoor ceremony space framed by palms and ferns, for up to 120 guests between March and October
  • The Oak Hall, at the centre of the house, with period features, chandeliers and high ceilings. It takes up to 120 for a ceremony or 100 for dining
  • The Orangery, a light-filled room for more intimate weddings of up to 50
  • The Starlit Pavilion, with a star-draped canopy and a built-in dance floor, for up to 160 dining or 200 dancing
  • The Studio and the Den, for getting ready in the morning, available from 8am

Civil ceremonies take place in the venue’s licensed spaces, and the website says to contact the Superintendent Registrar for North Warwickshire.

The Starlit Pavilion and the dance floor

With a dance floor already built in, the Starlit Pavilion is where the evening is likely to happen for larger weddings. That makes a DJ’s job simpler: the floor is in place, so the conversation is about where the DJ booth goes and how the lighting works with the canopy.

Questions to ask the wedding manager:

  • Where does the DJ set up in relation to the dance floor and the bar?
  • Is the meal in the same space, so the DJ sets up during or after it?
  • Where is the nearest power, and how many sockets are available?
  • Does the pavilion have house lighting the DJ can work with, or should they bring their own?
  • Is there a volume limit or a time when the music must stop?

The venue’s website doesn’t publish a sound limiter policy or music finish time. Exclusive use until the next morning is about the venue, not the music, so check before you plan a late finish.

The Secret Garden ceremony

An outdoor ceremony needs a different setup from the evening party. Sound outdoors drifts away, so a pair of speakers placed close to the guests works better than one loud speaker at the back. Your DJ will also need power near the ceremony spot, or battery-powered equipment.

Ask the venue what happens if it rains, as the Oak Hall is the obvious indoor alternative. A DJ who knows both plans can set up the ceremony speakers in the right place on the morning. Read more on ceremony and drinks reception music.

Guests staying over

Because Moxhull Hall has bedrooms on site, some of your guests may go to bed while others are still dancing. Ask the venue how close the bedrooms are to the evening space and whether that affects volume late at night. A good DJ will adjust as the night goes on.

Planning the evening

A DJ based nearby can be handy, but what matters most is someone who suits your music and your crowd. Our wedding reception timings guide shows where the first dance, evening food and last song usually fall, and the Sutton Coldfield DJ hire page covers the area more widely.
