Wedding DJ at Aston Hall
Wedding DJ at Aston Hall
Aston Hall offers weekday ceremonies in its 17th-century Great Hall, with drinks afterwards in the courtyard or stables. Here is how to plan the music around a short, historic slot.
About Aston Hall
Aston Hall is a Grade I listed 17th-century mansion, set in a Green Flag public park north of Birmingham city centre and run by Birmingham Museums. It has around 400 years of history: King Charles I spent a night there, Queen Victoria visited several times, and the building still shows damage from the Civil Wars.
The wedding package centres on a few spaces:
- The Great Hall, where ceremonies take place, with oak panelling, a large fireplace and a decorative plaster ceiling
- The Long Gallery, used for couple photographs
- The North Courtyard or the Stables, for drinks or afternoon tea after the ceremony, depending on the weather
- Lady Holte’s Garden and the front of the Hall, for photographs
Ceremonies are limited to 80 guests.
A short, weekday slot
Aston Hall’s published wedding offer is a daytime one. Exclusive hire of the Great Hall runs from 11am to 2pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holiday Mondays. Drinks or afternoon tea in the courtyard or stables are listed from midday to 1.30pm.
That shapes the music in two ways:
- Setup and pack-down are tight. Any equipment has to go in, be used and come out within the hire window. A compact, quick-to-set ceremony setup suits this far better than a full disco rig.
- The evening party usually happens elsewhere. Birmingham Museums says evening hire of event spaces is available, with prices on request. Many couples will still move on to a separate reception venue, so your DJ may be playing two places in one day.
Music in a Grade I listed hall
The wedding page doesn’t publish rules on music, amplification or suppliers. In listed museum buildings it is common for the venue to limit where equipment goes, what can be fixed to walls or floors, cable runs and volume, so the collection and interiors are protected. Ask the heritage venue hire team directly:
- Is amplified music allowed in the Great Hall, or only acoustic music?
- Where can a speaker and a small mixing setup go?
- Where is the nearest power socket, and are extension leads allowed?
- Does the venue need public liability insurance or PAT certificates from your DJ or musician?
- How do suppliers get equipment in, and where can they park?
If amplified music is not allowed, a solo musician may be a better choice for the ceremony itself, with the DJ joining you at the reception.
Planning the drinks music
The drinks or afternoon tea after the ceremony takes place in the North Courtyard or the Stables, depending on the weather. A courtyard means outdoor sound, which travels further and may need a battery-powered speaker if there’s no power nearby. Ask the team which space is the wet-weather option, so your DJ knows both setups in advance.
Our page on ceremony and drinks reception music explains how a DJ runs a smaller daytime setup alongside the main evening one.
Booking a DJ for a two-venue day
If you’re holding the reception somewhere else, tell your DJ both venues, the ceremony time and the travel time between them. A DJ covering both will need to pack down at Aston Hall and set up the main system at the reception before your guests arrive, or bring a second set of equipment.
It’s worth reading what a DJ needs from your venue for both venues, and browsing the other Birmingham wedding venues we cover if you’re still choosing where to party.
How we match you
