Wedding DJ at Edgbaston Park Hotel

Wedding DJ at Edgbaston Park Hotel

Edgbaston Park Hotel offers two very different wedding spaces: a modern suite built for dancing and a 1920s house with its own gardens. The right DJ setup depends on which one you book.

About the venue

Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre is at 53 Edgbaston Park Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham. It describes itself as a B Corp hotel, and its weddings page says it is licensed for civil ceremonies. A wedding coordinator looks after each couple.

For weddings, the hotel offers two main spaces:

  • The Fry Suite, a modern, versatile room with a private bar and a spacious dance floor. The hotel lists it at 180 guests for ceremonies and wedding breakfasts and 240 for the evening.
  • Hornton Grange, a 1920s house with an airy skylit extension and landscaped gardens. You get exclusive use, including a private bar and six deluxe bedrooms. It holds 100 for ceremonies and wedding breakfasts and up to 150 in the evening.

The Fry Suite: built for a full dance floor

The Fry Suite is the more straightforward space for a DJ. It is a modern room with a dance floor already part of the layout, so the conversation is mostly about scale. With up to 240 evening guests, you want a DJ whose sound fills the room evenly and whose lighting makes a large floor feel busy.

Things to check with the hotel and share with your DJ:

  • where the DJ sets up in relation to the dance floor and the bar
  • the nearest loading point, and how far equipment needs to travel from it
  • whether there is a lift or step-free route if the suite isn’t at ground level
  • any limit on volume or effects such as haze

Hornton Grange: a 1920s house with gardens

Hornton Grange suits a smaller, more personal wedding, and the hotel suggests its gardens as a backdrop for ceremonies and celebrations. For a DJ, a period house raises different questions from a purpose-built suite:

  • Where the dancing goes. The skylit extension is the obvious candidate. Ask the coordinator where the dance floor usually sits and how big it is.
  • Garden music. If you want music for an outdoor ceremony or drinks in the gardens, your DJ needs a separate, battery-powered or outdoor-safe setup. Ask the venue where power is available outside.
  • Volume and neighbours. Older houses often have tighter rules on volume or finish time than a hotel suite. The hotel doesn’t publish any for Hornton Grange, so ask.

A DJ who offers a compact second setup can cover the garden ceremony and drinks, then move inside for the evening. Read more about ceremony and drinks reception music.

House DJ or your own?

The hotel’s party packages (for birthdays rather than weddings) include a house DJ, uplighters and room hire from 7pm to midnight. The wedding pages don’t say whether a DJ is included in wedding packages, or whether outside DJs can play.

Ask your coordinator early. If a house DJ is included, find out who it is and whether you can talk to them about your music. If you can bring your own, make sure they have public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment, which most venues ask for. Our questions to ask a wedding DJ will help either way, and the guide to what a DJ needs from your venue covers the practical side.

Parking for your DJ

The hotel’s FAQs say up to 100 complimentary parking spaces are available on a first come, first served basis, beside the entrance or on the lower level of the multi-storey car park. A DJ loading equipment will want to park close to the room. Ask the hotel whether a loading space can be held for them on the day.
