Wedding DJ at Fazeley Studios
Wedding DJ at Fazeley Studios
A Victorian chapel and Sunday school in Digbeth, turned into an events venue with exposed brick and arched windows. Here is how to plan the music across its rooms.
About Fazeley Studios
Fazeley Studios is in Digbeth, Birmingham. The buildings began as a Unitarian chapel and Sunday school, designed by local architect George Ingall and opened in 1876, alongside 19th-century factory units. They have since been renovated into a venue that mixes Victorian features with a modern, pared-back style.
Weddings are run by the Digbeth Events team, which lists these spaces:
- Studio 7, with exposed brick, original chapel windows and wooden floors, licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 60
- The Garden Room, a blank-canvas space with tall Crittall-style windows and views of the courtyard, offered for ceremonies of up to 130
- The Grand Gallery, with a beamed ceiling, arched windows and a panelled oak bar, used for drinks receptions
- The Grand Gallery and the Fazeley Room together for the wedding breakfast (up to 150) and the evening reception (up to 200)
The venue says it is licensed until midnight, with an extension to 1am available on request, subject to it applying for one. Catering is in-house.
What the building means for your DJ
Fazeley Studios says it has room for live bands or DJ sets, so a dance floor is part of the plan rather than something squeezed in. The character of the building still affects the setup:
- Brick and wooden floors. Hard surfaces reflect sound, and old chapel spaces can be lively acoustically. A DJ who sets speakers carefully and keeps the volume controlled will sound better than one who relies on power.
- Arched and chapel windows. These look good lit from inside after dark. Ask your DJ whether their lighting can wash the walls and windows rather than just the dance floor.
- Moving between rooms. The day uses several spaces, so ask the team where the evening dance floor goes in the Grand Gallery and Fazeley Room, and whether the DJ sets up while you eat or after a room turnaround.
The wedding page doesn’t mention a sound limiter or loading arrangements. Parking close to the door is never guaranteed in an inner-city area, so ask the events team where suppliers unload and park. Our guide to what a DJ needs from your venue lists the other points to cover.
Approved suppliers
Digbeth Events publishes an approved supplier list of people who regularly work at its venues, including a DJ and entertainment company. The list doesn’t say whether outside suppliers are allowed. If you’d like a different DJ, ask the events team before you book, and make sure your DJ can provide public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment.
Making the most of a midnight finish
With the licence running to midnight unless an extension is agreed, the evening is a fixed length. A DJ who builds the floor early, keeps announcements brief and knows when to play the big songs makes more of the time. Our wedding reception timings guide gives a sample running order. If you want to dance until 1am, ask about the extension before you confirm your DJ’s hours.
Ceremony and drinks
A ceremony in Studio 7 or the Garden Room, followed by drinks in the Grand Gallery, is a natural fit for a DJ with a second, smaller setup. They can play you down the aisle, cover the signing and the drinks, then bring the main system in for the evening. Read more about ceremony and drinks reception music.

We read your answers and choose the local DJ who fits best. Your enquiry goes to that DJ only, never a list.
- 3 · They get in touch
Your DJ contacts you directly with availability and a quote, usually within 24 hours. You deal with them, and you decide whether to book.
